Recently i bought a replica handbag off an internet trade site. Problem is, the seller actually disappeared after receiving my money and i am thinking of letting my bank know of this. But i am concern that if i were to report a fraud, i would get penalised for buying replicas.
The only issue you would have is that your secondarily liable for trademark infringement. This means that the seller is DIRECTLY liable b/c they're infringing on the "brand" of the handbag (whether it's a logo, name, etc), and you KNOW that it's a fake and you buy it, you're committing what's called CONTRIBUTORY infringement.
However, your bank can't go after you for this - only the trademark owner can. So, you bank could have to tell, say, Coach, or Kate Spade what you did. Most likely, such a company would be inclined to go after the seller, not you.
Just FYI. Hope this helps.
You don't have to buy them off the Internet, you can get them anywhere. There are shops that sell only knockoffs. I just got the nicest coach bag, everyone comments on it, for $35. And a matching wallet for $7. I'm getting a DB in March.
Oh yeah, your bank won't care.
Buying and selling replicas does indeed break a number of laws, but it is VERy unlikely a consumer buying a single item would be prosecuted for buying.
